Pandit Ajoy
Chakrabarty

Born on 25 December 1952, Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty stands as a towering cult figure among legendary Indian Classical Vocalists. A scion and doyen of the Patiala-Kasur Gharana, he uniquely masters not only the gayaki of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib but the subtle nuances of Indore, Delhi, Jaipur, Gwalior, Agra, Kirana, Rampur, and even Carnatic music of South India.

He has performed at the world's most prestigious stages — Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, and the Jazz Preservation Hall in New Orleans, where he was awarded honorary citizenship. He is the first Indian classical vocalist to be invited by Pakistan and China and by BBC for their Golden Jubilee Celebration of India's Independence.

With over 100 recorded albums published globally, his musical journey is a bridge between ancient raga and the modern world.

Shrutinandan

"Pleasing to the ear" — the very soul of music.

In Sanskrit, Shruti means "that which is heard" and Nandan means "visually pleasing" — together: pleasing to the ear. Panditji conceived this concept long before it was inaugurated in 1993 in Kolkata, India.

This innovative, unique, and scientific approach to imparting musical knowledge — in both theory and performance — is the soul of this institution. In 1998, Panditji expanded the concept westward, establishing Shrutinandan International in the USA and UK.

Today, Shrutinandan International Inc. serves as a 501(c)(3) organization, bringing authentic Hindustani classical music education to students all across the United States.
